The Smart
Support Backpack from Chicco is a framed baby backpack carrier made of
lightweight but strong aluminium for carrying your baby around. The
backpack carrier is made of breathable fabric and its design allows for
good ventilation that provides for comfort for both parent and baby. It
also comes with an ergonomic backrest that distributes the
baby's weight on the carrier evenly with its
energy-absorbing lumbar padding and padded straps.
There are three
different straps, the shoulder straps, chest straps as well as the wide
waist strap for maximizing the use of lower hip strength. The shoulder
straps are fully adjustable for good fit and the height of the chest
strap is also adjustable for people with different heights or torso
length.
The Smart
Support Backpack also comes with a large retractable sunshield canopy
and a see-through rain shield that zips onto the sun shield. The
weather canopy is fairly large and provides a well rounded cover around
the baby. It is very useful for sheltering babies against winds aside
from sun and rain. While the canopy is generously sized, it stays well
behind the backpack carrier without getting in the way of using the
carrier.
The baby
backpack carrier also comes with a mobile phone holder and a
standard carry-all belt bag; both of which can be attached to the
backpack frame. The additional bags are not exceeding bulky but are
very convenience to have. The mobile phone holder especially, is very
useful since you do not have to reach into your bag or pocket (just
pull it out from the holder on your backpack) when you want to check on
your messages or make a call.
For easy putting
on and taking off of the baby backpack carrier, the Smart Support
Backpack also comes with a kickstand with the kickstand lock on its
back leg. However, the lock is located near the shoulder blade when
carrying, making it difficult to reach out to unlock the kickstand when
you want to put the backpack carrier down.
The main
complaint from users is often the lack of leg space for the baby. Due
to the compact design of the backpack carrier, the baby's
legs can only go onto both sides of the user's waist. If
the baby is small, his/her legs may not be long enough to go round your
waist and end up resting uncomfortably against the frame. In another
situation, the user may be fairly big such that his/her waist is almost
impossible for the baby to go around.
Other than the
issue with baby leg space, the Smart Support Backpack from Chicco is a
versatile baby backpack carrier that works well for most people. It is
durable and light weight, with minimal extra accessories (which adds on
to weight) and its fabric can be washed in cold water for easy care and
maintenance.
Chicco baby
backpack carriers have simple designs to provide for ease of use and
comfort. If you are looking for a convenience baby backpack carrier
that is value for money, Chicco carriers are a good buy. But if you
want your carrier to be more than a carrier for your baby, but a
backpack all in itself, Chicco is probably not for you.
